Thomas, I agree with you that he is not going to resign unless he plea bargains (very unlikely the Senate will ever positively vote to remove him) because of a sure removal by the Senate. That doesn't change the matter that the honorable thing would be to resign. Frankly, from a selfish point of view I would rather see him serve out his remaining term than to see Gore become the incumbent. For very different reasons, I believe Gore would be a far worse president than Clinton.
I am personally for government getting back to the foundation our founding fathers desired when they fought to establish this great land. Citizen legislators, government doing the things necessary for all, (military, fire, courts, etc..) and stop social engineering and programs that would be better left to the people and communities. The Robin Hood complex suffered by the Democrats punish the middle class (the workers and producers) by taking from them (40-50% taxes)and giving to the underclass who do not, in many cases, desire to be productive because they can make as much from government as they feel they could by working. Then, the upper class, who have giant clout, who fund the Democrats and in return get the tax code written to exempt them from many taxes along with other benefits. Meanwhile, your honest, hardworking, middleclass continues to fund this folly. I hope they will all vote for the ones who want to bring the size of government back in to line and eliminate all the government waste. I was pleasantly surprised to see Alan Greenspan note that government could not effectively invest in the private sector. There would be all kinds of waste, etc. if political hacks had that power.
