Hi Croc:

The snowshoes are made by Faber & Co, Quebec and are called Winter Hikers. Cost $109. I was somewhat limited in the choices available.

The frame is made from white ash, cut to preserve the straight grain of the wood to maintain flexiblity and strength. They are oblong in shape, front and slightly tapered in the back.

They have copolymer decking, formulated for -40 degrees. Bindings are neoprene. They, also, come with traction bars.

What did I tell you, truly modern..I know you are a traditional gal, but these work great, very lightweight. The oblong shape makes it easy to walk. It was truly fun using them.

The snowshoes my brothers made was round shaped, only joined in the back. I'm not sure how they made the front round, I was only a kid and not much interested in making snowshoes at the time..LOL

I do know they soaked the moosehide stripes in a liquied and worked with them wet, when the strips dried, they made for a really tight webbed decking.

When I see them, you can be certain I will question them about how they were made. I'm not sure if they would be very impressed with my modern shoes..LOL
