MaoII (interesting name) - I just mean, specifically, that the web enables a bunch of business transactions that companies have been trying to do for years with a bunch of old fashioned methods like EDI - unsuccessfully. OK, we know companies want to move transactions seamlessly between one another to communicate about things like 3-way match, blah blah blah, and thats what I think these ERP vendors should be working on, some new approach to that.

Instead, what I see Sap and psft etc doing is chasing Sebl and I2 on spaces that they invented and in Sebls case, pretty much own. These are boutique areas and I doubt Sap is going to increase their installed base with these offerings. They need some radical new technology.

I dont know what msft is doing with the web but I suspect its right on given their product mix. They certainly embraced new technologies with their new office suite (OK apples and oranges I know, msfts web initiatives are simple compared to what the ERPs will be doing) nonetheless, I think these ERP companies need to totally overhaul and shift R&D focus to the internet - forget doing another bolt on to existing code etc. JMO
