helpinout: "Relative deprivation" is a sociological term which refers to a subjective feeling of impoverishment an individual or societal group feels when comparing its lot with that of another. About 2 or 3 months, and even more recently than that, many on this thread were enthusiastic and happy about the prospect of CPQ getting to $35 or $38 by year end 1998, and of achieving $50 by April-October, 1999. Some were saying that they would be happy with $60 by year end 1999.
Last week there was gloom and despair because it was only $47-50 in mid-January, 1999. Why the change in mood? Relative deprivation - DELL, CSCO etc and the internuts were doing better!.
It doesn't bother me when others do better, but I have my own relative deprivation when I don't meet my own monthly targets.
