bp, >>>Looks like INTC has already taken steps to calm "Big Brother Inside" concerns.....<<<
I hope they've done enough, or can do enough now that this pandora's box has been opened, for their own and Rambus' sake. After all, anything that might divert Intel's resources and cause a delay in Pentium III and it's ultimate version (with Camino, Rambus DRAM) can only hurt both companies. WRT to "Big Brother Inside", some of the more fanatical groups are not going away. They want nothing short of all traces of the serial # circuitry being obliterated from the chips. They don't trust Intel's "default equals disabled" solution and only the PC owner can turn it on. I guess they think Bill Gates or someone can "reach out" through the ether and turn it on, unbeknownst to you. I intend to watch the whole thing very closely. Ya gotta admit, Intel manages to get itself into the snake, alligator and scorpion pit, with pretty amazing regulatory. Maybe Rambus ought to get into bed with Sun, or IBM, or HP or someone. Nah!
BTW, no need to be sorry.
