I just read kurlaks report on amd released 1/28. Citing a management interview, he explains the problems with the 400's which caused the 11% declines in asps. The problem was fixed three weeks after the ramp. This resulted in a lower mix of high margin processors which he claims will modify in the 1st qtr and allow amd to increase asps 6% to ~$94. He further claims amds sequential revs and earnings growth will surpass intc's .
Strangely missing is any mention of the k6-3 or how it will affect asps. Based on his estimates, it would seem he doesn't believe these cpus will be out in any signifigant volume. He predicts overall that chips between 350 and 400 will comprise 75% of the mix for the qtr, up from only 34% last qtr. Does this suggest we will be seeing k6-3 400s at only a marginal premium in asps? The report concludes with a reiteration of $1.55 for 99 and an accumulate rating. It also suggests the price will run up when other analysts realize the positive implications of this higher mix and (heres something I haven't seen before) gain confidence in their business plan.
