Boy I'm jealous. You moonlight skiing on the mesa, and Tim sitting in front of that wood-burning fireplace.

I decided to take a break from all this d*mn, depressing research. Day's been too pretty up here ... blue skies, wispy clouds, about 54 degrees.

Finally decided - no more lolly-gagging on making my home pretty ... and Y2K ready.

Bit the bullet and set-up 3 apts with electricians to get bids and get that back-up generator system put in. Wanna make sure I can pump that water from my 65gpm well. Previous owner drilled so deep, he hit an underground river. Almost artesian water.

Next week will order wood-burning stove insert for fireplace. They're still available up here, but delivery time's gone from 2 weeks to 2-3 months.

Set up more apts to get someone out here to prune the fruit trees and grape vines. I have SO much to learn. So many berries and veggies and wonderful perennial flowers and bulbs to learn about. Living and dead plants up all over the place. I just have to figure out what they all are:-)

I never knew it took 2 seasons to get good, strong asparagus. I thought all that brown stuff were weeds! LOL - I'm gonna be saving on my grocery bill.

They have a master gardening extension program up here. Guess who's signing up?

As much as I love the area, and the wonderful, friendly and helpful people I've met ... moving has been tough emotionally. I guess any change this major is. Coupled with this whole d*mn Y2K thing, it makes it even more stressful. Then again, it might be the painter/carpenter who's behind schedule and over budget:-)

Next week when the 3 new skylights are put in, and all of these apts are behind me ... and decisions are made ... and work starts (or is scheduled) ... I'll be a much happier pup! Looking forward to spring.

Would have liked to have gotten all of these appointments over this weekend ... but, everyone's fishin'

Recently I contacted a friend, with the message, "HELP!!! What have I done? Why am I here? Did I do the right thing?" He immediately called and said "YES". The previous week he spent more than an hour on the phone with Koskinen.

You and Tim are lucky. You didn't have to uproot and change your life and leave your friends. You don't have family that thinks you're crazy, and are angry and concerned.

You both already had great lives and a good circle of friends. You're lives won't change much. It's gonna be much harder for many.

ENOUGH OF THIS MAUDLIN STUFF. I bought a steak. Have a good red wine. Am gonna relax and enjoy the rest of the evening. Tomorrow's a new day.

Caio,

Cheryl

P.S. For those who don't know me ... I am DEFINITELY not a "survivalist". I like creature comforts.

I'm not ordering years of bulk grain. I'm buying lots of extra stuff when it's on sale. Only those things I like. I moved to a wonderful town. I don't live in the "boonies". I want to, and will be, a part of a community. When push comes to shove ... I got tired of Houston. Got tired of big city living. Guess Y2K was the impetus for me to make my move.
