I agree with several of your statements.

For years I have refused to bank on line, because I am afraid that someone might "hack" my password. With a CPU ID and authorization I will be willing to do banking transactions over the Internet.

I am a long time investor in Intel, and I think the management does an excellent job of strategic vision and execution of that vision. However the Intel management does a terrible job of Public Relations. Pentium Division Bug was a text book case of what not to do. Luckily it all ended well. Intel did the right thing in agreeing to switch the CPU ID off at power-on. However this does not appear to appease a lot of the people who have been misinformed by some self righteous idiots. Claims that if you enable the CPU ID mode, you will automatically broadcast your CPU ID to every site you visit, are absurd. Is that not controlled by the browser ? Yet reporters and the media are spreading such falsehoods. Intel has been slow to react to the "misinformation campaign".A media campaign to refute the garbage by getting sympathetic journalists to write articles selling the advantage of the CPU ID, and to refute the falsehoods is needed now!

AMD does a much better job of PR than Intel, but it screws-up most other things.
