with all due respect, your tendency to ascribe claims to me which i did not make, is slightly annoying if not unusual for many of the bulls on this thread ... i do NOT have automation expertise and made NO comment re: automation ... what i thought i was commenting on was the brilliance of order fulfillment of commodity goods which are manufactured and published by third parties then shipped to amzn -- essentially a useless middleman -- and the myth of amzn's positive carry due to its lack of inventory so i repeat
a. it's bullsh-t.
b. if it were true, why would amzn be spending massively to bring this fulfillment function in house.
c. this costs lots and lots of $$$ and amzn has little experience in mass quantity order fulfillment (~6-12 months).
d. one other teensy weensy difference between dell and amzn is that dell sells something that must be manufactured, circuit boards, sound cards -- i'm sure you know better than i -- hence automation and cost containment endows it with a significant competitive advantage in an erstwhile higher margin good
v.
amzn -- selling 3-25 commodities that others manufacture which amzn aggregates and resells.

ps went to the san diego zoo a little while back and was told by the resident expert that llama's can be ornery and violent animals if provoked ... fyi their phlegmballs which they spit at others when threatened are hardened green and the size of golfballs ... honest -- i could not make something this insane up 8-}}}
