70 Percent of ISP Subscribers Worldwide Will be Able to Access the Web With x2(tm) Technology: U.S. Robotics Supports Three Times More Subscribers Than Any Other Remote Access Vendor
U.S. Robotics (NASDAQ: USRX) today announced that 70 percent of subscribers worldwide will have access to the Web through ISPs (Internet Service Providers) that support U.S. Robotics' new x2 technology. In just one month, the list of ISPs supporting x2 has more than doubled. U.S. Robotics continues daily to sign up new ISPs who will use x2 to provide Internet access with 56 Kbps technology for their subscribers worldwide. U.S. Robotics' ISP customers supporting x2 now represent a collective total of more than 18 million subscribers - 70 percent of the estimated 25 million individuals worldwide who access the Web. Through these ISPs, U.S. Robotics serves three times more subscribers than any other remote access vendor. "Our coverage of the market with x2 will be tremendous," said John McCartney, president and chief operating officer of U.S. Robotics. "The clear majority of subscribers worldwide will access ISPs that support x2 technology, and we're continuing our momentum in the market with new ISPs coming on board every day."
New ISP Customers Select U.S. Robotics Based on x2
"We've found that our x2 technology is a key factor in bringing new ISP customers to U.S. Robotics," added McCartney. "The new ISPs we've signed up mention x2 as one of the most important considerations in their decision to switch to U.S. Robotics as their remote access vendor. We're giving them a strong competitive weapon in the market that will help them attract new subscribers and retain existing ones." To make it cost-effective and simple for ISPs to support this exciting new technology, U.S. Robotics' ISP customers will be able to upgrade existing remote access equipment with a simple software upgrade path that's unmatched in the industry. U.S. Robotics is the only company providing a software upgrade path for all its remote access equipment. The power of this kind of flexibility is a competitive advantage for ISPs, giving them the ability to implement x2 and other new technologies without having to incur the cost and hassle of massive hardware upgrades when there's new technology in the market. The x2 upgrade will be available this month, well ahead of any other comparable high-speed products that have been announced thus far by other remote access vendors. In the last month, U.S. Robotics has added more than 170 ISP customers to its list of x2 supporters. The list of ISPs, updated daily, may be accessed on U.S. Robotics' Web site at "http://x2.usr.com/leaders/index.html". "We're getting excellent feedback from the 25 ISPs who have been beta testing our x2 technology as we prepare to bring it to market," said McCartney. "Our ISP customers are extremely excited about bringing this technology to their 18 million subscribers, and the majority of them have very aggressive rollout schedules - they plan to bring this new technology to market more quickly than any other previous modem technology. They're gearing up to support the millions of people who will have access to x2 technology this month. They're looking at x2 as a tremendous opportunity to grow their businesses."
