From Company News Release 2/3/97:

"IMMEDIATE NEWS RELEASE

SCHMITT TMS-2000 BREAKTHROUGH MEASUREMENT CAPABILITIES

Portland, Oregon. Schmitt Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMIT) new TMS-2000 advanced capabilities for precision dimensional positioning of transition zone radius on computer disks allow the customer to locate critical transition zone dimensions within +/-0.001 of an inch on new super smooth disks (5A) while also reporting the micro-roughness in both the park zone and data/fly zone. The new TMS-2000 does all this with results automatically exported to SPC quality control systems within 20 seconds per scan.

This breakthrough surface roughness and precise dimensional positioning has been beta tested and accepted by IBM, Komag, and Seagate. This technology allows the user to process disks faster and 10 times more accurately. The precise dimensional measurement capabilities allow the user to reduce manufacturing tolerances and increase space on the disk for data storage.

The proven surface roughness repeatability of the TMS-2000 is +/-.2A which is now coupled with precise dimensional repeatability of +/-.0003 of an inch.

The TMS-2000 is the first metrology system to offer the disk drive industry the key and critical measurements required on a sincle scan within seconds so that the industry can improve product quality and factory throughput. Schmitt expects these product improvements to increase TMS-2000 unit sales in 1997."

There is more, but this is the meat. Sounds great, but would some you more technically inclined folks explain all this to us novices?

Thanks,
Mike
