Hi Thomas, The problem with TB is that it spreads so fast, and is so contagious that every hour you get an infected person out of circulation, there are less new cases to deal with. The NEW TB which has been written about extensively(including the cover of TIME not long ago) featured the drug resistant variety which is a very big problem. TB is not just a third world problem either as it is making a comeback in North America (probably why you get tested annually). I do not know the "turnaround" time on testing today, however I thought it was typically longer than 2 to 3 days. The culture is taken, it must then "grow" enough material to be measurable, then the test is applied. Using CPT would provide an almost instant answer as there would be no need to grow a large culture sample for detection. I will look around to see if I can find the companies discussion of this product/market. As far as cost goes, the usual type of people getting TB (drug users, down and outers) must or should be detained for some period of time during the "test" period. If not, they are running around infecting others while the test result comes back. The savings from knowing who should or should not require "quarantine" would be huge as would the fact that the infected ones would not be out reinfecting others. Regards, Kaiser...
