While I'm optimistic this is a good long term move, I'm still a little confused by the merger announcement. Notwithstanding my previous post about how to value this deal, I did some checking this morning at the Fool. They had an article which states that JDS holders get the .50855 conversion (no surprise - as per JDS' news release) but went onto say that UNPH holders get a one for one exchange. I think JDS should have noted this in the original release - would have made things much clearer for all. With this info I think we can value JDS at the following (round numbers, Friday close):

UNPH close 90
conversion to Cdn 1.55
90*1.55=140
Value to JDS 140*.50855=$71 Cdn

Pretty close to where we are. Think UNPH holders got a pretty good deal here given the relative growth rates of the two firms. Long term I'm very optimistic however. Would be interested to hear yours/others thoughts on how this impacts on the remainder of the sector - and where the opportunities may be.

Hope you're enjoying Whistler. Must be nice to see the cost of your trip covered by events away from the ski hill.
