Applixware (and the Linux connection) is only a small part of the Applix story. In fact, it adds very little to the bottom line. The price for the "suite" was ??$199?? before (memory fades) and now priced below $100. Applix used to run the dreariest advs. in Linux Journal for it, and had very little mention of it on their web pages.
Jit & Co. want to be a CIS company: as the article Don link us to points out, no one will make significant $$ with "out of the box" schemes on the coattails of the Linux phenomenon. I am sure management is happy about the Linux phenomenon but have no intention of refocusing the company away from TM1 and CIS (even though the margins look pitiful since 1Q97.)
