I agree with you to some extent- but I can also feel the irrational nature of my connection to the medal. I feel a connection to other family items as well- they are just things- but because they were owned by someone I loved I care more about them, than, say, if I went out and bought one in a shop. After my father died I wore his favorite sweater around- I still have the sweater 15 years later and there is no way I will get rid of it. Now rationally I should get rid of it- I don't wear it, it has some moth holes so no one else will wear it, but I won't get rid of it.
