I'm not sure what this means. My frames interface with the power connector and the IDE cable; the inner racks then interface with the frames. Could you clarify?

I mean a small circuit board with electronic components. Many/most of the frames I have seen have more than a direct cable connect. I am wondering if this has something to do with the price variations.

I believe the circuitry in some frames is for a multiuse capability. This type of application gives one the ability to 'hot swap' IDE drives and interchange tape and LS120 drives in lieu of the harddrive. They come with software and an icon appears somewhere on the desktop.

I am not keen on the idea of any software component. I do not want to get involved with hot swapping IDE drives...maybe hot swapping SCSI.

Some of the basic frames I looked at also had a small circuit board. I am wondering what it is for..key lock?? drive light??
