My frames have LED power and activity lights, which are connected to a small circuit board. Otherwise, they just provide an electrical connection.

Interesting you should mention this. I just came accross something from hi-val that allows this hot swapping. It's being auctioned:

I was skeptical and curious about how well it works. deja news turned up only one relevant post, directing me to the software manufacturer for this: agatetech.com .

Is this the kind of thing you'd seen? If someone could actually make this bulletproof, and give it DOS and NT drivers, it would make a killing. that'd be quite a trick, tho.

I wonder if these trays differ at all from the standard tiwanese knockoffs I had. Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.
