<Perhaps I misunderstood her. I thought she meant that the sweater and the medal
made her feel closer to her deceased father and she felt safer with them because she
remembered his presence and of course when he was there she would certainly
have felt safer as a little girl.>

No, Terrence, I don't think you misunderstood her. I think X feels the same way about her father's St. Christopher's medal and his very old sweater as I did when I used to go to my grandmother's grave. When I wrote that post about communicating with her and bringing her silk hydrangeas (at least I did not bring those very tacky plastic ones) I think I was saying the same thing that she may be--that everything in life is NOT rational, that just the memories of people we love make us strong as we go through life even though there is no tangible reason that they should, that there IS a spiritual dimension to our experience even if we do not believe in deities. This is the same discussion we have had with Del--he is purely rational and scientific in some of the same ways you are, and X and I are both asserting the meaningful nature of things outside ordinary reality.
