PORTFOLIO UPDATE FOR JANUARY 31:
Tech stocks keep roaring along. Portfolio is up 13% year to date. Best recent short-term trades were IMON overnight for 42% and USRF overnight for 32%. My only really stupid trade this month was a losing daytrade in AVCO (-300 bucks). Not buying back NITE was also a mistake. Otherwise, it's win some and lose some.
CORE POSITIONS: WCOM, BRKB, re-bought CMGI at 104. (31%)
50% GAIN CANDIDATES: CMIV, FLYR, FNDTF, FHT, MFNX, MXTR, PLCM, PROG, RNWK, VRIO, VTSS, XYLN. (50%) These positions range from 2 - 6% of the portfolio each. Stopped out of DISH and IACO, cashed out OMPT for a 20% gain. FHT and RNWK started to break out this week - keep an eye on both.
TRADIN' TRASH: ERGO, KCS, NRAG, TNO. (13%) Dumped FTIC at break even.
MUTUAL FUND CORNER (NEW): BEARX, SCGEX. (11%)
SHORT: None.
OPTIONS: Forgot to mention last time I still have LOR January 2000 25 calls, bought at 2 and now at 4 5/8. I may sell half soon to get some cash in my option account.
Percentages add up to 105% thanks to a margin position in TNO which I will dump if it doesn't start moving early this week. I want to add IPO PER (Perot Systems) on Tuesday if it doesn't open too high.

I also did a breakdown by market cap. In my universe, I consider any stock over $1 billion a "large cap", those over $500 million "medium cap" and under $500 million "small cap". I currently have 11 large caps, two medium caps and 7 small caps plus two mutual funds. |
