In the '40's, they spent a year each on Latin, Greek, German, and French. Since then, we do about three semesters of Greek and three semesters of French, with one semester of Elizabethan poetry and a close reading of a Shakespeare play, and another of modernist poetry (Eliot, Yeats, Pound, for example)in English. No one knows enough not to rely primarily on translations, but we do spend some time translating portions of a Platonic dialogue, a tragedy and the New Testament; and, in French, portions of Descartes, Touqueville, and a play by Racine.
I never saw the 220 before. Pretty cute.
