Laura.. I never did read Lonesome Dove, although it was recommended to me.. I have read and really enjoyed Pat Conroys stuff. I am a lover of the low country and he lives near Beaufort S.C. and has always written about that part of the country. I was told to read Prince of Tides before I saw the movie. That was the first book of his that I read. It is sure not a light hearted book, but I think he is an amazing writer. The Water is Wide, and Beach Music were also very good. The movie Conrac with jon Voight is based on the book The Water is Wide I think.. He is borderline autobiographical, and his family is pretty ticked off at him for a lot of the stuff he has written. To me he has a way with the words... I also enjoyed some of the Oprah Book Club selections..The Deep end of the Ocean..She's Come Undone..What seems like crazy on an ordinary day..I have been reading a lot lately, and not all great..but let me think on it a bit.. My all time all time favorite is Ayn Rand..The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged..it has been many years since I read either of those, but they made a tremendous impression on me when I was younger..maybe it is time for a reread of those two books. Man, I just went nuts on books ... don't want to lose focus on the purpose of this here thread..But then again, it seems as though the subject matter tends to run the gamut, soooo I won't worry about it.. And how about those Broncos?? must say I was rootin for the underdogs here..didn't want the coach to have a coronary..but it looks as though the best team won..They beat my favorite team last year so life is hard for some on SBS.. Monday morn on its way...Where will our bud Joey Beeeeeee? Frannie
