David, you are mistaken about a couple things:

1. Soros owned the stock long before it surged from $2 to $6. The main reasons for the stock jump were a) their first positive quarter and b) the seasonal brokers got back in.

2. Soros IS one of the founders of Home Depot.

Answers to a couple more:

1. Soros owns every share (actually, I believe they're options) that he originally purchased. This is a good sign, since he could have easily made millions by selling around $7.

2. As you say, "Fundamentally, they've had losing quarters". This is the reason it is currently around $3. If they constantly had winning quarters the stock would be $10. So look at it as a buying opportunity if you believe in its potential for future profitability.
