SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999--e.Digital Corp. (OTC:
EDIG) announced today that the U.S. Patent Office has granted the
fourth and fifth patents in a series protecting its core technology.
United States Pat. No. 5,839,108 covers the use of e.Digital's
MicroOS(TM) file management system in a hand held record and playback
device. United States Pat. No. 5,842,170 covers the company's methods
for editing files in a hand held recorder.
"These patents further strengthen e.Digital's intellectual
property position," stated Fred Falk, president and chief executive
officer of e.Digital. "There is growing demand for portable, digital
devices that interface with PC's and the Internet. e.Digital's
patented hardware and software solutions provide sophisticated,
compact file management and PC links for hand held voice, image,
video, and CD-quality music recorders. These patents are instrumental
in supporting our contracts with Lanier and Intel and in developing
new business relationships."
Falk continued, "The Speech Technology Pavilion at the recent
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas demonstrated the popularity of
speech technology in business and consumer tools. The growth of
speech-to-text and text-to-speech software opens a vast market for
hand-held recorders, voice browsers, and other commercial electronic
products taking advantage of speech processing. MicroOS is already the
basis of systems integrating hand held digital voice recorders with
PC's and voice-to-text software."
MicroOS stores and manipulates compressed voice, graphic, text,
video, or music files. The highly compacted and optimized C code
delivers high performance for manipulating large amounts of digital
data even in the smallest applications, and it can support an
unlimited number of files, directories, and subdirectories.
The company has incorporated MicroOS in hand held digital voice
and music recorders and developed software and hardware for the
devices to interface with PC's and the Internet.
e.Digital Corp. offers an engineering partnership to bring
electronic ideas to market for the world's leading electronics
companies.
Engineering services range from the licensing of e.Digital's
patented MicroOS(TM) file management system to custom product
development and manufacturing services. Specializing in embedded
systems for portable products utilizing non-volatile memory,
e.Digital's technology packs full-featured operation into low-cost
microcontrollers to preserve valuable memory for other functions.
e.Digital is a leader in linking portable digital devices to PC's
and the Internet. For more information on the company visit
