Been hangin' around this thread, best one on SI in my opinion. Good stuff. Obviously this is speculation, but Slick Willy Gates could be trying to help devalue the Net companies so that he can ante up and buy one of them. Microsoft a) has the money, b) could reaffirm its position as a true Internet company and c) could make a pure play into e-commerce and Web advertising without having to continue to spend billions on MSFT-as-a-portal branding efforts as well as internal development initiatives. He's done sneakier things in the past. Just a thought. J. Utah
