Listen, the CPU ID is inserted at final test by programming on chip eeprom cells that are an extension of the CPU ID register. (CPU ID is a part of all x86 cpus). Intel could "delete" the unique serial number on PIII parts merely by *not* programming the new bits in the first place...

No MASK PROBLEM...

No expense to change it...
