Re: Party in Karachi
The "Idea" Thread,
It was my pleasure to invite Mr. Iqbal Latif as the honored guest to a party in the port city of Karachi, Pakistan. Ike was very gracious to fly out from Islamabad, the capital which is situated at the footsteps of the mighty Karakoram and Himalayan mountain ranges, to Karachi, almost 900 miles south, the country's most populous city, a bustling metropolis of some 12 million people located on the banks of the Arabian Sea in the Indian Ocean.
The party, held this past Saturday, was arranged at the sea side apartment of my friend Mr. Zahid Rafiq, overlooking a moonlit Clifton beach. The view of Oyster Islands afforded from the terrace of the high rise apartment was breathtaking. I had invited a cross section of Karachi's movers and shaker's. From Mr. Amin Gulgee a prominent Pakistani artist who's work is frequently exhibited in art galleries in New York City, Paris, Venice and other cities to Mr. Ardy Cowasgee, scion of a wealthy Pakistani shipping family. Included amongst the 30 odd guests: Mr. John McCarry an American writer for National Geographics, originally from Boston, Massachusetts but who now calls Karachi his home; Ms. Rashida Masood, a prominent Pakistani fashion designer; Mr. Alyshah Allana, member of a well known political family and brother of Mr. Karim Allana a poster on this thread. Also invited were many local doctors (just in case ;) ), businessmen, investors and artists.
Over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, an au courant Ike discussed just about any and every subject with the invited guests. Personally, I have known Ike for more than two years through SI and like everyone else am accustomed to his smarts. But on our first meeting, it was his sense of humor that for me was the most pleasant surprise. His wit is as sharp as his analysis is incisive and he had the guests in stitches! Most of those invited are investors in the American equity market(s) and a few are also lurkers on Silicon Investor. It was nice to see that SI regulars like Judy, Sonki, James Strauss, J.T., Lee, Ground Zero, Big Bucks, Tom Trader, Bill Hueb, David Plonk, Alien Tech, O.J. (who btw, elicited the biggest reaction) and others are followed with equal interest on the other side of the globe as they are in the US! Ike, who is constantly espousing the virtues of this Global community on the thread, was happy to meet a few of the denizens of SI and to see that they were just as enthusiastic about the revolution that the Internet has unleashed.
Later in the apartment's disco room replete with every conceivable lighting and sound gadget, it was fun to see Ike let his hair down and wiggle his booty to the beat of music with the same precision as he does when making his daily calls on the gyrations of the markets. Everyone was having so much fun on the dance floor that it was not until way past 1:30 a.m., when we finally all sat down for dinner! Then later over tea and coffee the guests exchanged some more banter and it was much after 5:00 in the morning when we finally called it an evening! A Wonderful Evening!
Hope we can arrange more such parties in different parts of the world and thus get an opportunity to put a face to the name of the various posters...
Regards to All, Karim |
