InfoSpace, AvantGo Deliver Web Content To Handhelds (Newsbytes; 01/31/99)
HONG KONG, CHINA, 1999 JAN 31 (Newsbytes) -- By Staff Writer, IT Daily. InfoSpace and mobile push content provider AvantGo have announced an agreement to bring new "channels" of Web content for handheld computer users.
InfoSpace and AvantGo will deliver a wide variety of content offerings, including business, entertainment, finance, national, world, technology, top stories and sports news.
AvantGo software leverages Web technology so that companies can build, deploy and manage mobile applications on handheld computers, such as those based on the Windows CE and Palm Computing platforms.
Using AvantGo, InfoSpace visitors can now get business, international and technology news from the AP and UPI wire services, movie reviews and show times, concert and event information, TV schedules, album previews and release dates, market news and company profiles now and soon stock quotes and a portfolio tracker, recaps covering major professional and collegiate sporting events every time they synchronize their handheld devices.
Naveen Jain, chief executive officer (CEO) of InfoSpace, said, "We are pleased to be working with AvantGo to supply the growing number of handheld computer users with an array of InfoSpace content information that is eminently useful to people on the go."
