Ah ha. The analysts are guys after my own heart. Grilled ROK on exactly the points I would have.

Highlights :

1) New ROK chipset is mainly ROM based so they cannot be upgraded later. They do have a Flash ROM based version available but it will cost more and will be ready no less than 30 days after the first non-upgradeable type is shipped.
So its upto the client (end user or ISP) to decide which one he/she wants based on price.

2) This chipset can never be xDSL capable.

3) The testing was done in their own Labs and own lines and not in the real world with the POTS. Still they got speeds only in the high 40 and low 50 Kbps. (Nobody knows how it will perform in the real world).

4) On being quizzed upon how can their supporters (namely ASND and CSCC) be so critical and apprehensive of the 56k technology and its viability when ROK is so excited they said that they dont know on what basis they are saying that. Because from their point of view its what the web-surfers are hungrily waiting to pounce on. (Basically they menat to say that they did not know what ASND and CSCC managments are smoking. How about We-got-stuck-with-a-dud-modem-technology weed ?:-()

Getting tired of this nonsensical propaganda.
