The Dems may well argue that perjury and obstruction don't rise to the level of impeachment but common sense and legal precedent would seem to weigh against such arguments.

Says you. On Presidential impeachment, the precedents are somewhat sparse. This particular trial seems about as farcical as the Andrew Johnson trial, and about as political.

As for common sense, I reserve the right to ignore the view of a lawyer who can't be bothered with the "alleged" part in all this, or with the legal technicalities of what actually constitutes perjury. Of course, if Clinton were tried and acquitted, that wouldn't matter either, would it, JLA? "OJ verdict!" he dryly, hypothetically notes in advance.
