If I may be so bold as to answer that one... some goofballs decided to sell cheap at the end of the day. The last trade just happened to be at $6.75, and voila! If all of the sudden all of the sellers disappeared, but one bold guy at $10 and somebody decided to pay it, then we would have a $10 close!

I dare not guess who those goofballs were.

But maybe I misread your question.

P.S. I never quite realized the impact just one buy or sell could make on a stock until I made my first sell at "market". I bet lots of people were unhappy with me, the price hasn't gone back up since.
