Au contraire, I love the micromirror device. I would love to invest in a TI clone maker that doesn't sport all the baggage PJTV carries. Now that TI is selling the chip as well as the entire optical engine, I expect that my chance will come.

At $8000 the price point is better than $10-12, but not low enough to capture the consumer market. Rear projection CRT's are at $4000 and discounted to $2500. LCD's will get there soon.

As far as quality, the 2 chip TI projector is good, the 3 chip one better. They all have a fixed number of pixels, and have significant contrast problems. CRT's are still better for projection in high end systems.

Watch Silicon Light machines, they are still private, but their DLP chip may be significantly better.
