aol....can be/is your ISP.....Internet Service Provider....but they are also...a "content provider". If you have an ISP from another source....such as a cable modem.... AOL will let you BYOA (Bring your own access: see keyword: billing) and charge you less...since they will not be providing you access or acting as your ISP. Mary
