CANAL+ Tops 2,000,000 digital subscribers in europe

Paris - September 24, 1998

CANAL+ announced today that the number of subscribers to its digital broadcasting services in Europe has passed the two million mark. The portfolio now includes more than 1,075,000 digital subscribers in France (including NC Numéricâble), 540,000 in Spain, 390,000 in Italy, 30,000 in the Netherlands and 12,000 in Belgium. Designed and created by CANAL+ teams, the services include digital versions of the network's premium channels, theme channels, interactive services, pay-per-view services, a revolutionary approach to Formula 1 broadcasting and a unique secure payment system. Subscribers also benefit from the company's own open, fully-compatible digital set-top box (marketed in France and Spain as Mediasat and in Italy as Goldbox), which is being manufactured by ten companies.

As a pioneer in digital television in all these countries, CANAL+ is helping to build the united Europe of tomorrow. By bringing together European program providers, encouraging the development of national film industries, and respecting each country's identity, Ý is the only TV group to successfully develop its digital platforms throughout Europe.
