02/01 18:01 IMS says 9,500 Celebrex prescriptions dispensed

NEW YORK, Feb 1 (Reuters) - IMS Health <RX.N> said Monday that
recently approved arthritis drug Celebrex, which is co-marketed by Pfizer
Inc. <PFE.N> and GD Searle & Co. captured 9,527 dispensed total
prescriptions in the U.S. for the week ending January 22.

The drug, which was recently approved in the United States, is the first in a
new class of drugs called Cox-2 inhibitors that are used to treat the
symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

IMS Health said in a statement that year-ending November 1998 U.S. sales
for antiarthritics are $1.7 billion and total prescriptions dispensed are 70.5
million.
