I believe that the number of Celebrex prescriptions will continue to soar. Many physicians are still not aware of this drug. I just returned from a CME at Whistler. When the rheumatologist spoke about Celebrex the audience began to salivate! My invitation to a Searle-Pfizer dinner lecture on Feb 22nd states "New! Advances in the Treatment of Arthritis- Breakthrough COX-2 Technology!!!" Funny it doesn't mention Celebrex anywhere.

The FDA approved Celebrex for the treatment of OA and RA. However, once a medication is on the market, physicians can prescribe Celebrex for other conditions. I believe in the geriatric population it will quickly become the standard of care for pain management where an NSAID would have been used in the past. I felt comfortable prescribing it to an 88 yo with a frozen shoulder last week. One of my partners states he now has a new tool to use when the narcotic seekers come in for a visit.
