Dan, I have been following your commentary on GUMM on this SI thread for several days and want to commend you for the time , effort and results. They have been very useful to me in adding to my long position of late. I have posted some items occasionally on the Yahoo board but have found SI much more informative. In fact, I just signed up on SI so that I could post this message and response to you and others interested in GUMM.
Much of what has transpired of late would cause anyone to question either the method or motives of those involved with the zicam project. This has provided fuel for skeptics and movement for shorts. While I am not privy to just what has transpired of late, I rest assured that it is not from some manipulative effort by insiders. I have met the GUMM board and all officers personally and have toured the plant. I have followed the stock since August 97 when I made a token investment on a whim and the suggestion of a friend. Since that time I have been watching and waiting and began buying a bit at a time after February 98 and Kern's departure. (my investment was too soon admitedly) Most of my purchases were in the 5s and 6s, but I have recently added some above 10 and will buy more in the a.m.for several reasons, including the info in your post. A primary reason is the involvement of Brown Russell. Let me give you just a bit of background. I have known his family well since his uncle and I went to Parris Island together in 1962. In Georgia, my home, the Russell family has been revered for generations. Brown's great "uncle Dick" was our U.S.senator for years after having been GA Governor and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of our state. Brown's dad is a West Pointer and bird col. who was severly wounded in Nam before going on to law school at Emory. (His dad and uncle were, in fact, the subject of a great old Korean war flick staring Gregory Peck called "Pork Chop Hill) I worked some with his dad after law school. Brown went on to law school, too, where he was magna cum everything and ended up in Arizona after falling in love with the Colorado River and the West.
There is a relevant point here. The Russell family and Brown have a VERY strong sense of honor, duty and what's right and what's not. He will go to considerable lengths to protect that reputation. I am well satisfied that you may rely upon what Brown tells you. I feel the same way about Gary K. While this information and these observations do not assure that GUMM will be a "can't loose" play, they do make me believe that zicam's entrance into this world is quite legit, if not completely artful.
Dan, I hope these comments are more useful than mere personal observations. I, for one, like to know who I'm dealing with if I'm going to pony up large dollars on a speculative play. I just wish I had heard about this zicam earlier cause nobody told me a damn thing!
