>What exactly is the Netscape server?
Netscape Server (works on NT and Unix), Microsoft's Internet Information Server (works on NT) and INNI's Web/400 (works on IBM AS/400) are software installed on a machine (a web server) that contains web pages. Here is how it works (without getting into more complicated staff such as interacting with database, security, ect). For example, if you type in "http://www.cnn.com/" in your web browser, your browser will sent a "request" to the server machine named www.cnn.com, the web server software (for example, the Netscape server) is responsible for handling that request. In this case, since no specific page name is specified, the server will sent the default page (called index.html or default.htm) to your browser. That's the page you see when you access www.cnn.com.
INNI has acquired the right from Netscape to rewrite the Netscape server program so it works on IBM AS/400 (which is a midranged machine and is more powerful). Once Netscape server is available for AS/400, it should make it much easier for IBM to market AS/400 as the internet server. That's why IBM paid Netscape the license fee on behalf of INNI. The AS/400 version of Netscape (which INNI owns) will compete with INNI's own web/400 and Lotus Domino server.
