Sorry, my response timed out; here it is complete.
Bengalus:
Thank you for supplying me with the medline search reference that I supplied and posted to Mad2 yesterday. I might not have been able to find the hot key to it on the upper left hand corner to my computer.<g>
I do sincerely thank you for your skepticism and effort, aside from the personal detractions regarding my judgement as either a physician or investor. You have obviously delved into this subject in some detail but come up with a different conclusion.
The fact that Hensley has not published on the common cold at this point is irrelevant to me. He is published and respected. I have published on several subjects and personally do not consider myself an expert on any of them. I have a patent on something that is completely unrelated to medicine and completely unrelated to most everything I do. Point: You can obfuscate things by trying to clear them up sometimes. Case in point: the efforts of some shorters to find Hensley's references, their inability to do so and their conclusion that they did not exist rather than that their methods of searching were lacking. Q.E.D.
Patent searches are often more difficult than medline searches and, while I laud you for trying to find a patent or application for this product, I have 2 observations. : 1. I believe the company has not lied to me once, so if they say and advertise that a patent is pending, in this case (but indeed not for all instances when a company says something), I believe them.
2. Since ZICAM is a trademark that is not final (the letters "TM" are legally different than the "r" with a circle), it is unlikely that its inventors would submit a patent application under that name. If you insist on doing a patent search, try the ingredients individually as listed on the box. I could help a bit more, but I think the actual patent in this case is probably not relevant. The company is careful, conservative and honest. If you choose not to believe that, and that is indeed a generally fair and smart attitude with many companies, rest assured that they are also responsive to their own bevy of lawyers.
I do not think I am the one with my head in the sand here.
