Tuesday February 2, 7:46 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Unisys Server Sets Record for Supporting Concurrent PeopleSoft Users on Windows NT BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 1999--Unisys Corp. today announced the results of a recent benchmark test in which the Unisys QS/2 server broke the record for supporting concurrent users of PeopleSoft HRMS 7 Online application software in a Microsoft Windows NT environment.
The QS/2 provided support for 7,500 concurrent users of the popular human resources management system -- the largest number of concurrent Windows NT users of the PeopleSoft application ever measured and double the number supported in previous tests on competing systems.
The 7,500 users supported on the Intel processor-based QS/2, with average retrieve and update response time of less than 2.5 seconds, far surpass the previous maximum of 3,200 users achieved on a competitor's Windows NT platform with comparable response time.
PeopleSoft, which developed test scripts and established parameters for qualifying results, certified the benchmark results. ''We believe that PeopleSoft HRMS is one of the key applications requiring the enterprise-class computing strengths that Unisys brings to the Windows NT platform,'' said G.W. Smith, vice president and general manager, Worldwide Business Solutions, Unisys Computer Systems.
''Our success in surpassing all earlier records for concurrent PeopleSoft users on Windows NT is yet another compelling indicator of what Intel and Microsoft technology can achieve when coupled with Unisys expertise in large-scale, mission-critical computing. For customers, the test results mean that the total cost of ownership advantages associated with Windows NT can be realized when deploying very large PeopleSoft applications.''
The benchmark environment
The tests were conducted in a three-tiered client/server environment comprising the following components:
Unisys HS/6 application servers, each with six Intel 200-MHz Pentium Pro processors, 1024 Kbytes of Level-2 cache, two Gbytes of memory, and 72 Gbytes of disk A Unisys QS/2 database server running Oracle7.3.3 equipped with four 400-MHz Pentium II Xeon processors, 32 Kbytes of Level-1 and 1024 Kbytes of Level-2 cache, four Gbytes of memory, and 378 Gbytes of disk A client PC for submitting transactions and a set of Mercury Interactive LoadRunner load drivers for simulating concurrent users About Unisys
