You don't know the underlyings of telecoms deals, Maurice. When a
telecom vendor is about to see the poo hitting the propeller it
takes proactive action. They have that deal for some god forsaken
place operator requiring vendor financing in a drawer which they
don't think worth pursue until they see the trouble coming.

hinted that more contracts would soon be announced from Europe and
North America. Last week analysts expressed worries about the poor
performance of the wireless division in Nortel's financial fourth
quarter, compared with a stellar 1997.]

CONCLUSION: This is the hint that the Wireless business of Nortel
was starting to make some trousers, shall we say brown? in
