When I tan, I tan reddish brown, too, but my hair is wavy. I look English, or Slavic. The whiteness of the skin that does not get sun is something I did not think much about until I became friends with a man who was racially prejudiced, although he claimed that he was not prejudiced against American Indians. He is 100% Irish, and I used to taunt him that I was not 100% white, but I was whiter than he was. It is an article of faith among certain white supremacists that only people who are 100% white are able to blush, hence the movie on the movement, "Blood in the face." I am prone to blushing, it's just hogwash, like so many things racists believe.

My mother has green eyes, and my husband has grey eyes, so it's genetically ok that one of my sons has blond hair and blue eyes, but it is strange. The other son has similar coloring to mine, but his eyes are darker, almost black.
