Tulvio, the TI DSP announced today has zip (nothing) to do with 56k. It represents an advance in price/performance for high speed DSP technology, for use in high bandwidth data and video environments. It can do what it now takes an array of DSP chips to do, with obvious space and power (heat) savings.

It seems like a natural for high-bandwidth DSL. It also lowers the cost threshold for deployment of equipment to perform high-bandwidth movement of data, including simultaneous (multiplexed) voice/data/video/fax.

Remember, anything beyond 56-64k requires additional equipment at the telco, so low cost is a key for viability.
