It wasn't NASA that drove the development of computers, networks, and fiber optics. It was the Department of Defense. LSI circuits were driven by DOD to create reliable, low weight, small volume missile guidance systems. The internet grew out of a DARPA project to interconnect Defense Department researchers. Fiber optics was, I believe driven mostly by telephone companies like GTE.
