Ish, one of my earliest memories is the time my mother left me and my sister sitting in the family Ford while she went into a hospital in New Orleans. Many years later I learned that her lover was a resident, medical student-type, at the hospital at the time, my dad always thought sister #3 was his. So I could not have been older than three. I cut my foot on some metal inside the door mechanism, which was exposed, and a passerby saw my sister and I crying, and me bleeding, and carried me into the emergency room. I had already got stitches when my mother found us. It's a simple defect in character.

If she told me the sun rose in the east, I'd look to the west.
