"Army networks with 3Com gear"

February 2, 1999

PC Week via NewsEdge Corporation : 3Com Corp. recently announced
that the Army's Soldier and Biological Chemical Command, based in
Edgewood, Md., is initiating an ultrafast enterprise network
standardized on 3Com systems. The 1,500-user LAN will use a Gigabit
Ethernet backbone and uplinks to connect servers and users.
Scheduled for completion early this year, the network will accelerate
SBCCOM's use of Microsoft Corp.'s Exchange e-mail, file transfers and
print services. The network is designed to increase network
bandwidth to support research and information sharing in preparing
defenses against chemical and biological weapons.
