Partition Magic first screen

I am a little confused. Here is the first screen that shows up in my Win98 17.2 gig system.

corbels.com

Does that look similar to your first screen? In the upper left mine indicates Disk1-16472MB. I do not have two discs at the moment so there are no additional disks in the drop down menu. 16472 is the total disc capacity less some small amount I have no explanation for and don't really care.

The screen shot indicates one Primary 10.2 gig Partition as indicated in the size col. The free col does not refer to free space. This is unused or available space in the primary partition.

Note C:\MAX under Volume. This is the best way to distinguish drives. If you change the order in bios boot sequence the Disk1 could change to disk2 even though it is the same disk. To avoid confusion always verify with the Volume label.

Are you booting Partition Magic from NT? ( I never have so let me know if it looks different) The first display should be Disk1 which is the NT disk (If you are booting from NT). In the upper left if you click on the drop down menu and select Disk2 you should see the screen that is linked to above..do you? With Disk2 in the upper left display and a graphic similar to the one linked you should be looking at your Win98 drive. It should look like mine but the partition size should be smaller in your case.

Here is where my reading of PM needs help. No FreeSpace is shown. C: w98 is shwn using 7404mb, practically the whole disk. Why?

Perhaps if you are booting from NT an early screen does not know how much of the drive is being used so it indicates the hole thing. This may be due to the fact NT can not see FAT32.
