Does anyone have an idea why RIG's stock price has held up so much better than GLM's over the last year? Do
they have longer term contracts?

Answer...RIG is a deep water drilling company. While GLM has most of it's rigs in shallow water submersibles. GLM, does have some deep water drilling platforms. But, RIG is the industry leader in deep water drilling with Diamond Offshore second. Deep water rigs have a longer contract for day rates. Also, a much more lucrative contract. Industry analysts as well as industry exec's....beleive that deep water drilling is....

1. More profitable...which it is spelled out above.

2. The new exploration spots are where? Deep Water.

3. Last but more importantly, Deep water is harsh and unruly...thus rates and exploration cost more...
