Mr Johnson, By reading so many of your posts , my feeling is that you are a sale man of Red Hat. Talking about switching to Linux, as a user of Excel and Words, Microsoft Office, and I am very comfortable with these software, my question is why should I switch to Linux , can you offer me just one single reason to encourage me to switch with the following problems about switching to another OS ? i.e
1) As you know, nowadays computers need to communicate with each others, which means we need a common standard , just like we are discussing on this thread with a common language everyone can understand. Can you tell me will I end up with problems when I attach a file , which is not in the word or excel format , in my email and send to a friend of mine who is using the words, excel in window ? Will he have problems to open up my files which were not in the excel or word format ? If there is a problem, then thinking about 90% of the PC users are still using window OS, then why should I switch ?
2) Linux is not a proved product, while Window is in the market for a long time and offer enough technical support , and I am familiar with window OS ever since I started my career. Can you offer me another reason to encourage me to switch to linux which I have never heard of, and will take me a lot of time to relearn this new product?
3) We all know there are plenty of application programs in the market which support window OS, can you offer me another reason to switch to a new OS which do not have any support of application programs ? besides, what should I do with my other application programs , which I have already invested a lot of money in them ? Maybe I can save $49 by switching to Linux, but it will cost me a lot of more down the road. As a cooperation IT manager, can you tell me why should I switch to Linux , which did not have any track record and with a lot of uncertainities, what is more, I need spend much much more to retrain my employee who are already so familiar with window OS ? Again, I may save some, but cost me much more later by losing the productivity of my employee, and retrain my employee for the new OS .
4) On my job, lot of software tools are developed under the window environment, by switching to the new OS, you are telling me we need to rewrite all our software tools. So , is the save of $49 a real save ?
Pls just offer me one single reason why I need to switch to Linux !!!!!!!!!!!!! |
