Sam, thanks for that clip. Who is this Platt guy? I am not surprised to Michael Dell's comments favoring Microsoft and Intel. Unlike Compaq, almost all of DELL's fortunes are tied to the research (?) done by Intel and Microsoft. If there are real cracks developing the Wintel duapoly, it will be DELL who gets effected first. That's why I take some of these comments with a grain of salt. I like the following quote by Unruh, though!
"The problem would come if there was an abuse of that power."
My take on it is that if IBM were calling shots still now, a 386 PC would be a standard and it would cost about $5k. Thanks to Intel and Microsoft things are far better and a lot cheaper. On the other hand, if Intel and Microsoft didn't literally kill the competition, a Pentium 200 MHz machine would cost less than $1,000 now (per my 20/20 vision -g-) I personally think that Microsoft always abused the power and Intel just started doing it. I know you wouldn't agree. But that is my opinion.
