In an interview before yesterday's announcement, company
President Richard Sulpizio strongly denied that the company
was grooming the division for a sale, as many observers have
speculated. However, Sulpizio hinted that the trimming could
lead to a "strategic partnership with somebody."

He mentioned French telecommunications giant Alcatel and
Germany's Siemens, but quickly added that Qualcomm is not
currently negotiating with either of those companies.
